External Amazing Races

Add Waimarino activities to your own Amazing Race

If you’re organising your own Amazing Race in the Tauranga area and would like to make Waimarino one of your race challenge stop-off points, we can offer a range of options for you to select for your competitors to tackle before heading off to the next challenge point.

Activity Options are:

You have a choice of either dry or wet challenges;

Dry Challenges:

Blind Low Ropes Course: Complete our low ropes course as fast as possible while blindfolded, receiving only verbal assistance from your team members.
All assisting team members will be required to ensure a safe and speedy completion of the course. One minute time penalties (minutes you will be made to wait, before you are allowed to depart Waimarino) will be added for any assisting team member seen giving the competitor physical assistance. We can have multiple teams participating in this challenge at once.

The Climbing Wall:  Scale either the easiest section of our 8 metre climbing wall whilst blindfolded, or the next harder section without the blindfold. 3 minute penalties will be given to anyone not making it to the top. (minutes you will be made to wait, before you are allowed to depart Waimarino) Only one team will be able to do this at a time.

Wet Challenges:

Participants will require swimsuits (& or wetsuits) and towels, warm clothes for afterwards.  We have wetsuits available for hire at an additional $5 charge if desired.

The Blob’: This Challenge is not dry and is not for the faint-hearted. Competitors have to jump between 4 - 5.5 metres (depending on the tide) onto the blob, crawl to the end and get themselves into position before the next team member jumps onto the blob, launching the first team member into the air before landing in the river. Definitely very wet. Only one team will be able to do this at a time. Click on the below link to have a look at ‘The Blob’, in action: (the girl in the video volunteered to be blobbed by the two rather hefty guys)

Hydroslide: Everyone must slide down our hydroslide on a foam mat into the river. All participants must be able to swim. Definitely very wet. Only one person can go down the slide at a time, and we would run each team through at a time.

Kayak-slide: Same slide, only you'll be in a kayak facing either forwards or backwards for the very brave.  All participants must be able to swim. Only one person can go down the slide at a time, and we would run each team through at a time.

Kayak down river around road bridge and back to Waimarino: This challenge will requires the whole team to compete as a team; you will only finish once the last member of your team has crossed the line. One minute time penalties (minutes you will be made to wait, before you are allowed to depart Waimarino) will be added for each team member seen further than 10 metres (30 feet) away from another team member. Stay close and encourage each other. While a capsize it unlikely this is considered to be a wet activity. The whole team can do this at the same time, and we can have multiple teams kayaking at once.

All of these activities make for great photo opportunities to take candid shots of you colleagues to remember the fun of the day back in the office, we recommend you bring a camera.
